Langer's Age-Defying Performance Continues

At 68, Bernhard Langer delivered another masterclass in senior golf, shooting 6-under 66 to share the opening round lead at the Senior PGA Championship. Despite suffering a double bogey on the 11th hole, the German legend rallied with a spectacular finish, playing his final six holes in 5-under par.

This marks Langer's 43rd round at or below his age, a testament to his enduring excellence on the senior circuit where he already holds the record with 12 senior major championships.

Dramatic Finish Highlights Round

The round's defining moment came at the par-5 17th, where Langer struck a 3-iron hybrid for his second shot before draining a 60-foot eagle putt. This spectacular finish helped offset his earlier struggles on the 11th, where a narrowly missed 6-iron left him in an awkward bunker lie.

"If I would putt like that the rest of my career, I would be extremely happy," Langer reflected on his eagle putt.

Competitive Leaderboard Takes Shape

Langer shares the lead with Miguel Angel Jiménez (62), Brian Gay, and Australia's Steve Allan. The field features an intriguing mix of seasoned champions and newcomers, including Ben Crane making his senior major debut at 50.

Notably, Henrik Stenson made his senior debut after turning 50 earlier this month, though the former British Open champion could only manage a 72 in his first senior major appearance.
