Alex Fitzpatrick Claims Dramatic Indian Open Victory After Six-Shot Comeback
Historic Six-Shot Comeback Victory
Alex Fitzpatrick delivered one of the most dramatic comebacks on the European tour this season, overturning a six-shot deficit on the final day at DLF Golf and Country Club to claim his maiden tour victory at the Indian Open.
After dropping two early bogeys that left him six behind leader Eugenio Chacarra through five holes, Fitzpatrick responded with a stunning run of seven birdies over the next 10 holes to surge into the lead.
Brothers Make History
The victory comes just one week after his older brother Matt Fitzpatrick, the 2022 U.S. Open champion, won the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour. This marks the first time brothers have won consecutive weeks on the PGA Tour and European tour respectively.
"It's extremely nice to join him in the winners' ranks," Alex reflected on matching his brother's success. "I idolize him, so just trying to be like him in every way."
Chacarra's Collapse Seals Victory
Spanish golfer Chacarra, who started the final round with a four-shot lead, suffered a dramatic collapse with three consecutive bogeys late in the round, eventually signing for a 75. Despite a double bogey on the 18th hole, Fitzpatrick secured victory by two shots at 9-under 275.
Brothers winning consecutive weeks on major tours is statistically extraordinary, highlighting both players' consistent performance capabilities.
