ESPN Golf: Rahm Settles DP World Tour Dispute, Ryder Cup Eligibility Restored
Rahm Ends Standoff with DP World Tour
Jon Rahm confirmed Tuesday that he has reached a settlement with the DP World Tour, ending a prolonged dispute over unpaid fines and restoring his eligibility for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland.
Background: Fines, Conflicting Events, and LIV
The dispute stemmed from Rahm's participation in LIV Golf events without obtaining releases from the DP World Tour following his move to LIV in late 2023. Outstanding fines were reported to be as high as $3 million. In February 2026, eight other DP World Tour members received conditional releases after paying their fines — Rahm was notably excluded.
Terms of the Agreement
According to sources, Rahm paid all outstanding fines covering 2024 through the current season, including fines for three conflicting events in 2026. He will not receive Race to Dubai points for his Masters finish due to the breach, but will be eligible to earn them from the PGA Championship onward.
As part of the deal, Rahm is required to play five DP World Tour events (excluding majors) before the end of the season. He plans to participate in the Spanish Open and other autumn events, while also targeting the Scottish Open — co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour — the week before The Open Championship.
Strokeslab's Take
Rahm's return sets a concrete precedent for how LIV players can navigate dual-tour obligations, and his presence will be a major boost for the European Ryder Cup team heading into Adare Manor.
Rahm's reinstatement is a pivotal moment not just for the European Ryder Cup roster, but as a template for how LIV players might continue to maintain dual-tour standing — the terms set here could shape future negotiations across the sport.
