ESPN: Oklahoma State's Preston Stout Claims NCAA Individual Crown, Earns U.S. Open and Masters Exemptions

Oklahoma State junior Preston Stout claimed the NCAA individual golf title at La Costa in Carlsbad, California, posting a final-round 69 for a 14-under 274 total — good enough for a one-shot win over Alabama's William Jennings. It was Stout's fifth victory of the season.

A Tense Final Round

Stout built a commanding five-shot advantage through 11 holes before bogeys on Nos. 12, 14, and 17 allowed Jennings to draw level. Stout ultimately sealed the win with a clutch birdie on the par-5 18th.

Jennings made a spirited charge — recovering from a double bogey with six birdies over a 10-hole stretch — but a poor chip on the par-4 ninth hole left him unable to convert, ending his bid one shot short.

Tour-Level Exemptions on the Line

As the world's third-ranked amateur, Stout earned exemptions into this year's U.S. Open and next year's Masters, assuming he retains amateur status. The win marks the 10th NCAA individual title for an Oklahoma State player and the first since Matthew Wolff in 2019.

World No. 1 amateur Jackson Koivun of Auburn was never in contention, finishing in a tie for 11th.
