GolfWRX: JDC WITB Snapshots and a Once-in-a-Lifetime Miura Hand-Ground Wedge Set Hits the Market
JDC WITB Roundup
Ahead of the John Deere Classic, GolfWRX photographed the bags of Jonathan Byrd and Lanto Griffin — both of whom carried more than 14 clubs at the time of the shoot, requiring adjustments before the first tee.
Jonathan Byrd: All-In on Callaway
Byrd's setup leans heavily on Callaway hardware, featuring the Quantum Triple Diamond driver (9°, played at 10°) paired with a Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Black 65 TX. His fairway wood rotation spans the Elyte Titanium (3W), Paradym Triple Diamond (5W), and Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond (7W). For irons, he splits between the Apex Pro (4–5) and Apex TC (6–PW), all on True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts. Titleist Vokey SM11 wedges (50/54/58) round out the setup, with an Odyssey prototype putter and Titleist Pro V1x ball.
Lanto Griffin: Titleist Through and Through
Griffin's configuration is a statement of Titleist loyalty — GTS2 driver, GTS3 3-wood, U505 driving iron, and T100 irons (4–9) make up the core. His four-wedge setup (Vokey SM11: 46/50/54/60) and dual-putter arrangement — carrying both a TaylorMade Spider Tour Black Counter Balance and a Scotty Cameron Phantom 12 Prototype — hints at ongoing experimentation with his short game.

The Miura Masterpiece
In the GolfWRX classifieds, an extraordinary set of three hand-ground Miura Golf wedges has surfaced. What makes them exceptional: Katsuhiro Miura himself ground these blanks by hand and eye — no molds, no templates, no calipers. The blanks were acquired in 2012 from a limited dealer allocation (available only 2008–2012), stored untouched, and then personally ground by Mr. Miura in 2021 as an homage to the 1957 Baby Blade. These are brand new, never struck a ball. The seller, who spent years curating a rare Miura collection, describes watching the process as witnessing "a modern-day da Vinci or van Gogh."
They are listed as 1 of 1 — because that's exactly what they are.
While the 14-club counts reveal just how much elite players tinker with their setups until the last moment, the Miura hand-ground wedges remind us that golf equipment can transcend utility and become genuine craft — a dimension of the game that raw performance data can never fully capture.
