Ping G Le4 Fitting Experience: Discovering New Club Technology
GOLF.com editor Jessica Marksbury shares her comprehensive fitting experience with Ping's latest G Le4 women's club lineup at the company's Proving Grounds facility.
Technology-Driven Performance Gains
After using G Le3 clubs for two and a half years, Marksbury tested whether technological advances alone could improve her performance. Despite admitting to irregular practice and sporadic play, she experienced remarkable improvements across her entire bag.
Key G Le4 Innovations
The standout feature is the Carbonfly Wrap crown technology, marking the first time Ping has incorporated this into women's drivers. This design relocates the center of gravity for higher launch and increased distance, specifically optimized for swing speeds of 80 mph or lower.
New offerings include hybrids extending to 8-iron loft and expanded fairway wood options with refined loft configurations (5-wood at 23°, 7-wood at 28°, 9-wood at 33°).
Measurable Improvements
The fitting session, conducted by Ping's James Lee, produced impressive results: - 10-yard distance gain with mid-irons - Significantly improved dispersion on both solid strikes and mishits - Enhanced ball speed and 10+ yards with driver adjustments - Better trajectory control across all club categories
Marksbury's 67 mph swing speed aligned perfectly with the G Le4's design parameters, demonstrating how proper club fitting can maximize technological benefits.
Equipment Configuration
Her final setup included a 10.5° driver (adjusted from 11.5°), 3-wood, 7-wood, hybrids from 5-8, select irons (9-iron through SW), and the Louise putter featuring an updated face insert for improved feel.
Modern club technology, when properly fitted, demonstrates the potential to significantly enhance player performance regardless of practice frequency or physical conditioning changes.
