Simple Athletic Method Reveals Perfect Golf Setup Posture
Athletic Approach to Golf Setup Fundamentals
GOLF Top 100 Teacher Tim Cooke introduces an innovative method for finding proper golf posture through a simple jumping exercise. Many recreational golfers struggle with setup errors, particularly the trail hip positioning too far from the target, which creates numerous swing inconsistencies.
The Jumping Exercise Method
Cooke's technique involves using an alignment stick as a reference point for proper foot positioning and body balance. The exercise requires golfers to:
1. Place an alignment stick along their target line 2. Stand with the stick bisecting the arch of their feet 3. Jump vertically and land back on the same spot
Three-Point Balance System
When executed correctly, golfers should feel weight distributed across the "tripod of the feet" - the big toe, ball of the foot, and heel. This natural landing position automatically places the hips and pelvis in optimal alignment between the feet.
"When you land, you should feel weight on the tripod of your feet, and I can feel my hips and my pelvis sit perfectly between my feet at address," Cooke explains.
Building Athletic Foundation
By incorporating athleticism into the setup routine, this method helps golfers discover their natural, balanced position rather than forcing artificial postures. The dynamic nature of the exercise allows the body to find its most stable and powerful position for consistent ball striking.
This approach represents a shift from traditional static setup instruction toward more intuitive, movement-based learning that many golfers find easier to replicate on the course.
This athletic approach to setup fundamentals offers better body memory retention compared to static posture instruction, making it more practical for on-course application.
