3M Open: Michael Kim Cards Historic 59 at TPC Twin Cities, Takes 36-Hole Lead

Michael Kim, ranked 57th in the world, fired a bogey-free 12-under 59 in Round 2 of the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities—just the 16th sub-60 score in PGA Tour history. He sits at 14-under overall and holds the 36-hole lead.

How the 59 Unfolded

Kim teed off in one of the morning's earliest groups and rattled off five consecutive birdies on holes 3 through 7, making the turn in 29. After adding birdies on 10 and 12, he stood on the 15th tee needing four birdies over the final four holes to break 60.

He delivered: a 12-footer on 15, a 14-footer on 16, a 17-footer on the par-3 17th, and a dramatic 24-foot, 4-inch birdie putt on the par-5 18th to seal the round. It is the first sub-60 score on Tour since Jake Knapp's 59 at PGA National in 2025.

The Strokes Gained Story

Kim ranked first in both SG: Approach and SG: Putting for the round. He holed eight putts from 10 feet or longer and needed just 21 total putts. Coming off three consecutive missed cuts and having worked with coach Sean Foley on a wind-direction ball-flight issue after Round 1, the improvement was immediate and measurable.
