ESPN Golf: Sentry Insurance Steps In as Torrey Pines Title Sponsor Starting 2027
Sentry Moves from Kapalua to Torrey Pines
Sentry Insurance has been named the new title sponsor of the PGA Tour event at Torrey Pines in San Diego, with the inaugural edition scheduled for January 27-30, 2027. The tournament will be branded "The Sentry" and will use both the North and South courses at the iconic municipal layout.
Sentry had backed the Kapalua event in Hawaii since 2018, but a water dispute on Maui forced the cancellation of the 2026 edition, prompting the PGA Tour to discontinue the Hawaii swing entirely. When Farmers Insurance opted not to renew its sponsorship of the Torrey Pines event, the Tour secured Sentry as a natural fit.
A Historic Venue With Major Pedigree
Torrey Pines has hosted PGA Tour events since 1968 and served as the site of the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Opens. The 2027 edition will mark the 60th tournament held at the course. To avoid a scheduling conflict with the NFL Conference Championships, the event will conclude on Saturday rather than Sunday.
Most recently, Justin Rose captured the Farmers Insurance Open title with a record 23-under 265, becoming the first wire-to-wire winner in the tournament's history at Torrey Pines.
Strokeslab Perspective
With its cliff-side Pacific views and major-tested layout, Torrey Pines offers a compelling early-season SG data set. The South Course's demanding par-4s and long approaches make it a true Strokes Gained laboratory—watch for SG: APP and SG: OTT trends as the 2027 field takes shape.
The shift from Kapalua to Torrey Pines significantly changes the early-season SG benchmark landscape; as a U.S. Open venue, Torrey Pines promises richer, more demanding data to anchor the year's analytics.
