JBL Grip 5: The Golf Course Speaker That Delivers Premium Sound and Rugged Durability

JBL Grip 5: A Golf Speaker Worth Putting in Your Bag

For golfers who enjoy music during casual rounds, finding a speaker that balances sound quality, durability, and portability has always been a challenge. GOLF.com editor Josh Berhow tested the JBL Grip 5 during a buddies' golf trip, and the conclusion is straightforward: this speaker raises the bar for on-course audio.

Real-World Performance

After years of settling for budget speakers with underwhelming sound and short battery life, Berhow chose to upgrade to JBL based on strong community reviews. During cart rounds with friends, the Grip 5's audio output — particularly its bass — was noticeably superior to the smartphone speaker used in the adjacent cart. Battery performance was equally impressive: a single charge powered 36 holes of golf plus several additional hours on a boat.

Bluetooth connectivity was smooth and easy enough that multiple people in the group could take turns with the playlist without friction.
