Michelle Wie West to Make Competitive Return at 2026 U.S. Women's Open at Riviera

Michelle Wie West, who announced her retirement from competitive golf at Pebble Beach in 2023, has revealed her return to competition at the 2026 U.S. Women's Open at Riviera Country Club, June 4-7.

Utilizing Final Year of Exemption

Wie West will compete using her 10-year exemption from her 2014 U.S. Women's Open victory at Pinehurst No. 2. This exemption was extended by two years due to maternity provisions, after she and husband Jonnie West welcomed son Jagger in October 2024.

Changed Perspective Since Retirement

Three years ago at Pebble Beach, when asked about a potential return if daughter Makenna wanted to see her play, Wie West responded that the chances were "very slim." She concluded her career with a memorable 30-foot birdie putt, playing her final rounds alongside Annika Sorenstam with family watching from the sidelines.

One Final Chapter

Announcing on Instagram, Wie West emphasized the significance of both her final year of eligibility and Riviera's iconic status. She has also committed to participating in the Women's Tour Golf League launching this fall, indicating a broader return to competitive golf.

"Last year I had this in the back of my mind, and I don't have another one of these in the back of my mind," she stated, confirming this will truly be her final U.S. Women's Open appearance.
