Scotty Cameron Phantom 3.2 & 12: Two New Mallets Built for Opposite Ends of the Putting Spectrum

Source: GOLF.com·Jun 16, 2026·📖 Read original

Scotty Cameron has expanded its 2026 Phantom mallet lineup with two distinctly different models: the Phantom 3.2 and the Phantom 12. Rather than variations on a theme, these putters are engineered for opposite ends of the mallet spectrum — one for players who want mallet forgiveness with a blade feel, and one for those seeking maximum MOI and stability.

Phantom 3.2: A Greatest-Hits Mallet

The Phantom 3.2 is essentially a design collage of some of Scotty Cameron's most iconic mallet shapes. Its footprint mirrors the GoLo 6, the face profile draws from the mid-2000s Red X concept, the ball-framing slots are borrowed from the Kombi (famously used by Adam Scott to win the 2013 Masters), and the T-bar alignment system comes straight from the Phantom 9.

The model is offered exclusively with a plumber's neck — a deliberate choice to give blade-loyal players a familiar transition point into a mallet. Like most of the Phantom range, it features a Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) insert with chain-link milling for tuned sound and feel.

On Tour, Ludvig Åberg moved into the Phantom 3.2 after extended testing, giving the shape meaningful validation.

Phantom 12: Deep CG, Maximum MOI

The Phantom 12 is built around a fundamentally different engineering philosophy. An aluminum core combined with a steel perimeter ring pushes the CG as deep and low as possible in the putter head, resulting in an MOI of approximately 5,000 g/cm² — the highest in the Phantom lineup.

Unlike other Phantom models, the 12 skips the SCS insert entirely. Instead, the aluminum from the body extends directly to the face and is finished with chain-link milling, preserving the milled feel Cameron is known for while keeping CG positioned optimally. Scotty Cameron's R&D head Austie Rollinson was explicit that chasing MOI numbers at the cost of performance is a trap: "Anything over 5,000, you're just bragging."

Lydia Ko made headlines by shooting a 60 in her very first round with the Phantom 12 — hard to argue with that data point.

Strokeslab Take

From a Strokes Gained perspective, putter selection matters more than most golfers realize. The Phantom 3.2 suits players who still want tactile feedback and face-awareness through the stroke; the Phantom 12 is for those who benefit from a more forgiving, face-balanced setup that promotes consistent forward roll. Both are $499 and worth a proper fitting session before committing.

Availability - Phantom 3.2 (RH): June 25 - Phantom 3.2 (LH) + Phantom 12 (RH only): July 23 - Price: $499 each

💬Strokeslab コメント

Putter fitting is one of the highest-ROI investments a golfer can make for SG: Putting gains — the Phantom 3.2 and 12 aren't competing models but two different answers to two different stroke types. Get on a SAM PuttLab or equivalent before deciding.
